You know, I've really been irritated to read some of the commentary from the Traddies (i.e. Rorate Caeli, whom I greatly admire in their saner moments) regarding Cardinal Dolan.
Besides showing themselves to be lacking in any sense of civility (whatever happened to catching more flies with honey than vinegar?), they seem to be missing the essence of God's mysteries.
I mentioned to someone a while back that the 1980 Al Smith dinner, with Reagan and Carter, pivoted on Carter's shrill, political comments in contact to Reagan's humorous, self-effacing jokes. Ultimately the event redounded to Reagan's benefit. One could imagine a similar result from last night.
God works in mysterious ways. While one of those ways might have been for Cardinal Dolan to not invite Obama, another one might have been allow people to compare and contrast the two.
Are we really so arrogant as to preclude what ends God wills from these means?
And if you're going to criticize the Cardinal, or even just disagree with him, at least show a little class.

Show us your face and we shall be saved. "Each soul is the object of My special love. That is why I am so grateful to those who are resourceful and bringing back sinners to Me. Keep this in mind then. I gave My life for them in the most atrocious torture, for these poor beloved ones. A humble repentance, and they are already on My heart. So speak gently to them. Speak with tenderness. A brusque remark could drive them farther away." - He and I
